Mobile Apps
Do I need a mobile app if I already have a website?
Quick answer
Usually not at first. If your site is fast and mobile-friendly, it already works on every phone without anyone downloading anything. Build a native app when you have loyal, repeat users and genuinely need push notifications, offline use, or device features like the camera or GPS. For many businesses a responsive website or a PWA does the job for far less.
A website reaches everyone instantly through a browser and shows up in Google; an app has to be found, downloaded, and kept on the phone, which is a big ask unless people use it often. For marketing, catalogues, bookings, and lead generation, a well-built mobile-responsive website is almost always enough.
An app earns its cost when engagement is high and repeat. Think daily-use tools, loyalty and ordering, services that must work offline, or features that tap the camera, GPS, or push notifications. If customers would open it weekly, an app can deepen loyalty; if they'd open it twice a year, it won't get used.
There's a middle option too. A progressive web app (PWA) lets your site be added to the home screen, work offline, and send push notifications on Android — app-like convenience without building and maintaining separate iOS and Android apps. Many businesses start there and build a native app only once demand is proven.
