What are Core Web Vitals?
Quick answer
Core Web Vitals are a set of metrics Google uses to measure real-world page experience: loading speed (Largest Contentful Paint), responsiveness to input (Interaction to Next Paint), and visual stability (Cumulative Layout Shift). They are part of how Google ranks pages, so good scores help both users and SEO.
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) tracks how quickly the main content appears, Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how fast the page responds when you tap or click, and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures how much the layout jumps around while loading. Google publishes a recommended target for each.
Because these are based on actual user data, improving them usually means faster hosting, optimised images, less heavy JavaScript, and reserving space for elements so they do not shift. Better scores reduce bounce and support rankings, which is why they are a standard part of performance work.
